YERT blog: WWOOF! WWOOF! in WYOMING

Greetings from Shanti Land! Thank you so, so much for the incredible opportunity to welcome WWOOFers for the last 2 years. Not only did we have a great amount of work accomplished, most of all I appreciate to meet new friends who also love Earth and Humanity as we do. Again, Thanks so so much for your visits, the great team work, your courage and friendship!  Also , if I may I like to share the following quote I just read in a farming magazine: “The purpose of agriculture is not the production of food, but the perfection of human beings.” Masanobu Fukuoka.  Love and Gratitude, Chef Pascale, Shanti Land, South-East Tennessee -WWOOF Host, September 2010

I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful experience you gave me this summer....I hosted five WWOOFers from Europe on my organic garden in Tucson, Arizona for the month of July.  We worked three to four days a week converting an old tennis court into a raised-bed vegetable garden.  Then we relaxed, saw sights, cooked, ate, and hung out the rest of each week.  I ended up with a really impressive new garden and five terrific new friends.  I feel really fortunate to have gotten my project done AND met such wonderful people in the process. Thank you so much! -WWOOF Host, August 2010

I've been an official wwoofer for over a year now. I am on my second season of wwoofing in California. I am originally from MA and last year was my first year wwoofing in CA. I had my first experience in Davenport, CA at XXX farm. I wanted to tell you that this farm is amazing. I had some of the best memories of my life on this farm last summer. I learned so much about so many aspects of farming and homesteading. The two people who run the farm are some of the most gentle, knowledgeable, friendly, warm, safe, and open people I have ever met. I consider them, and their family, family now and have decided to wwoof on their farm a second year in a row. I've been back for about 3 months now. Their farm is small, and not commercial, and they are relatively new at having wwoofers (last year was, I think, their first). With their combined experience and the WWOOFers' help, the farm has grown a lot. I have offered some ideas about making things better for herself and the WWOOFers, and she has implemented some of my ideas (about chore schedules, keeping track of hours, food ideas, etc). I have seen tremendous progress in even a year for the wwoofers and the farm, and I think it should be noticed.- WWOOFer, July 2010

I'm Prentiss from Oakland Organic in Gurley, Louisiana. I just wanted to thank you for providing great social media-ie: opportunities to help farmers actually farm organically.  WWOOF-USA has saved our farm.  Take care and thanks again!- WWOOF host, June 2010

Thank you so much, the newsletter was VERY helpful. I am a recent WWOOF-er and what an amazing program. It is a great way for me to learn, travel and increase my cultural and sustainable awareness and expand my ecological viewpoints. I stayed in Eugene Oregon last summer where I was first introduced to permaculture and yogi philosophy.  Now I have booked a trip to Hawaii! the big island on the North Point. I will learn about off the grid methods and local food production. Thank you so much for all your hard work and for these amazing opportunities :) -WWOOFer, March 2010

We love the WWOOFers who have joined us.  We also recommended WWOOF to one of our friends who lives near by and she has had some really wonderful experiences with her WWOOFers as well.  The folks who have worked with us are thoughtful about life, and are eager to, not only learn, but to share their own knowledge.  I bless the day I finally got around to signing up as a host.  All the best, -WWOOF Host in Ohio, February 2010.

Anybody interested in learning about sustainable living in a quiet, mountainous setting with two amazing, loving people and a bunch of friendly dogs, sheep, goats and chickens should visit Coweeta Heritage Center in Otto, North Carolina. During my three weeks at the center, I learned significant carpentry skills, composting and humanure, cooking (with basics! Very rewarding and delicious), some plant taxonomy and animal husbandry. The time that I spent in the Nantahala mountains with Paul and Lara, as well as time spent alone in the cabin, led to significant self-observance and personal growth. Certainly a place for anyone who wants to hear some good stories, learn, live and wake up to the most beautiful scenery you can imagine! ~ Libby Young, MD, March 2009

Thank you for managing a fantastic farm program. We have hosted so many awesome travelers and are looking forward to the 2009 season. Cheers, WWOOF Host in OR, February 2009

First, I want to thank you for making this organization possible. I've WWOOFed on 6 farms now. Each one for a month, as I circumnavigate the country via wwoofing. I've connected with many wonderful people along the way, volunteers and hosts alike, and have harvested and eaten some of the most beautiful and delicious food of my life. Needless to say, I'm one pleased volunteer, very much looking forward to the west coast leg of my journey. ~ WWOOFer, January 2009

We had our best WWOOF season ever last year, almost a constant stream of wwoofers, and all amazing folks! Thank you so so much for the opportunity to learn from these people, to share different personalities and cultures with our kids, and to get some much appreciated help on the farm.~ Katharine Dubansky, WWOOF Host, January 2009

Hosting has been so wonderful! It is an amazing experience and the connections are good that WWOOF enables. I am going WWOOFing in another country soon! ~ Mandala, WWOOF host, December 2008

We only wanted to thank you and to tell you what an exciting our first WOOFFing experience was! We had a very good time, the Family Landers, in Denver, CO, hosted us as a part of their family, becoming friends!!! You can read (in Spanish) and see pictures of the time in the farm in our blog! www.rosearan.blogspot.com

Thank you very much for everything! ~Alexander Rose and Laura Aran, WWOOFers, October 2008

Thank you very much for this wonderful service. We hosted our first WWOOFer/intern this year and not only did we get some much needed help but made a wonderful friend. Let me know if there is ever anything I can do to help WWOOF-USA. Thanks!

I just got back from a fantastic month spent on Summer Jo's Farm in Grants Pass, OR. It was my first WWOOFING experience and I had no idea going into it what to expect, but having done it I'd now highly recommend Summer Jo's as a perfect place to start out WWOOFING.

Our boss, Matthew Molyneaux, was the most patient, knowledgeable soul. He went out of his way to make sure we were getting the most out of this experience, and never once did he make us feel like we were incompetent rookie farmers. The farm owners, Nancy and Mike, very generously let us use their house for showers and laundry, in addition to giving us a very generous weekly stipend and loaves of bread from the bakery. The meals that were prepared for us by the restaurant were delicious, and everyone at the farm and restaurant went out of the way to make us feel welcome there. I learned more my first week on the farm than I learned an entire summer at an internship doing research. It was probably the most valuable experience I've had.

I'll never forget my month at Summer Jo's and the wonderful people I met. ~ Marissa Butler, WWOOFer, September 2008

"Our first WWOOFer has been a dream. His mother has raised him right."~ WWOOF Host, August 2008

To the folks at WWOOF,

I just wanted to write and say that our WWOOFing experience at the Coweeta Heritage Center in Otto, NC was terrific! Paul and Lara were very welcoming and lots of fun. Kate and I learned a lot during our short stay and we look forward to going back again!

"Thank you for sending us many wonderful and helpful volunteers and workers. Thank you for the work you do - because of WWOOF, many hands make light work around here". ~ Flying Disc Ranch, CA, July, 2008

"I just finished working on my first farm as a wwoofer. It is called Kismet Organic Fruit Farm and its in SW Lower Michigan. I only worked there for a week and a half but I had an excellent time. I worked with rasberries, strawberries, gooseberries, currents and tomatoes. The family was kind and the food was delicious, I worked hard but also had the opportunity to explore. I think i'm hooked. Thank you for making this resource available so people can find places like this." ~ Emilie Anderson, WWOOFer, July, 2008

Dear WWOOF-USA,

I have to thank you for the care you had with me, it was very likeable and I really appreciated that. I congratulate you for this service, this project is awesome! The Earth thanks you and your partners!

I intend to arrive in California in August. I am fascinated with the diversity of experiences in US. I think it will be an extraordinary journey for me. I wish we will meet some day!

Good luck and happiness from us!
Hugs, WWOOFer from Belo Horizonte, Brazil

I want to thank you again for your attention as well as praise the Wwoof organization. Without the wwoofers our lives would not be as rich. If you ever find yourself in South Louisiana, we would love to host you!
