Little Haiti (Miami) This is a 2 acre inner city Farm. It is the only Farm in its location, smack in the Middle of Urban Miami. The land is sporadic and encircled with housing, an Apartment Complex and city life. We have been cultivating the land for 32 years. The organic gardening is on a small 1/4 acre of land and there are fruit trees throughout the property. These include: Sapodilla, Tamarind, Starfruit (Carambola), Strawberry Fruit tree, Sea Grapes, Grape vines, Calabash, Banana, Papaya, Coconut, Ackee, Mango, Avocado, Passion fruit vine, Fig, Mulberry, sour orange, Monstero Delicioso, Florida Cherry,Pineapple, Egg fruit, Barbados cherry,Ginip and others Veggies at the moment: Cabbage, eggplant, basil, collard greens, Jamaican spinach, Aloe, broccoli, hot peppers, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and other roots, herbs and plants. much more will be planted this season! Animals: Dogs, Cats, Emus, chickens, roosters, Ducks, Geese, Turkeys, snake, exotic mexican Lizard, Pigs, wild chicken and other various foul and goats. Honey Bees are also here! We prefer for woofers to lodge a minimum of two weeks, less time is ok for small projects. The length of time is unlimited as long as integration with our farm is cooperative and pleasant. We live in a sub-tropical climate so we can accept wwoofers all year round. We have a treehouse, School Bus/RV sleeper, Apts, Rooms, and Camping areas. We will discuss the accommodations based on availability. At the moment we only accommodate up to 3 woofers at a time. We are looking for people of all background with a variety of interests. Experienced wooofers are preferred. As you come we can assign you to things which interest you most as well as the daily activities which are on going. We have interest to develop here in these areas: lots of restoration projects on the many homes and apts here, generate a sustainable irrigation system, grey water system, rain water catchment and others related; Barn work and fencing for animals; deck restoration and enhancements, and other building work; alternative energy of all sorts is a great desire here. We have not implemented these things as of yet. We would like to enhance our sense of sustainability here, all are welcome to help this project along. Fun activities are boat sailing, volleyball, drumming, yoga, bike rides, gardening and community farming. Plus we live in the city of Miami so there is soo much to do here! We do not have a sense of strict hours here yet we intend that things get accomplished daily. We work on projects and try to get things accomplished independently! Rarely do we work together. This means independent workers are important! There are activities that involve maintenance and daily routine work which you will be participating in which only take an hour or two. 20 hours would be the minimum work week. We suggest 25-30hrs. Food is not included in the arrangements other then what is growing on the farm. We can include food for those who accomplish special projects or that have handyman skills. There is the City Bus and mini bus taxis? here. You could walk to most places to get a few things. If you have a bike that would really come in handy as you can bike ride to the beach! English is the main language but there are many here who speak Spanish, Portuguese, french and creole. Please do not bring pets, we have enough animals here. Kids are ok! No special diets, we have Raw foodist to omnivors. All diets are welcome. We are looking for people who have knowledge in aquaculture as we are building a pond, permaculture and alternative energy techniques. We are also looking for grant writers and people interested in helping form a community. There is endless opportunities here and the fun is always welcome. We are 5 minutes from the design district for those who are really interested in the arts, and 10 minutes from south beach and downtown Miami.
